Here's what to do:

1. Join the Toy Society Flickr group here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/774666@N20/

2. Make a toy (ah dah). I like to make mine child friendly, no buttons etc, but of course it's up to you.

3. Make your tags, print up your letters (see attached) and make a cute little envelope (I like to have the letter concealed so the finding is made even more exciting with a secret letter). Find the tags here: http://sites.google.com/site/thetoysociety/

I make my tags using cardboard labels I buy from the stationery shop. I cut a printed "Take Me Home" label and another the same size cut from an old story book. I sew them to each side of the cardboard tag using a zig zag stitch and attach some cotton kitchen string. But everyone likes to use their own touch!

For the letters I just print and cut. I make a little envelope out of a page from an old story book. I get my old books from the Op Shop and usually try and pick ones that are really tatty and even drawn on so I'm not depriving anyone of a book.

Feel free to write a note on the bottom of the letter or the outside of the envelope that you made the toy.

Seal up your letter in your cute little handmade envelope. On the front write "Open Me"

4.  Now put it all in a zip lock bag - toy and envelope and cut some slits in the plastic above the press-seal and tie some string through there so you have a loop to use to hang your toy up. Tie your cute little homemade tag on the bag too - you know so the finder knows the toy is theirs and they can take it home.

Please don't put any advertising or anything like that with your toy in the bag or in the envelope. The Toy Society is about leaving something for nothing. You'll get kudos on the blog and Flickr, see points 8, 9, 10. Your name label you sew into the seam of your toy is fine though.

5. Take it to the streets baby! Find a spot to put your toy. I look for urban places that are known for their street art or that have a great vibe. I steer away from places where I think a toy (however cute) hanging on a light pole wouldn't be received well - you know crazy posh suburbs etc you get it right? But people have mentioned all sorts of ideas for places to drop toys that I'd never considered so do what pleases you! But please do be considerate of local rules, customs, cultures, crazy police states etc as I won't be bailing you out if you upset the locals!

6. CLICK! Don't forget to take a photo of your member of The Toy Society. A good one that shows the location and one a bit closer that shows the toy too. You can see examples on the Flickr Group.

7. Upload your photo to the Flickr pool (see #1 above), use the tag "thetoysociety"and in the subject include:
Dropped: ie where you dropped your toy
Number of toys:
Made by:
Dropped by: please include a link to your blog if you have one - or Flickr
When:
And (YOUR NAME) says: any other comments you want to leave

Please make sure you include the above details, if you don't it will delay your drop appearing on the blog.

If you don't have a Flickr account then email me the above details and your photos.

8. Then it's my turn! I'll grab your photo and details of your drop and add it to The Toy Society blog.

9. When your toy is found and the finder sends an email to the thetoysociety@gmail.com I'll email you to let you know and put a found post up on the blog.

10. Once you've done a drop I'll add you to the list of participants on the blog too, so it people can click to you even if you're not the most current drop. Whoops this is still a work in progress I  hope to find some time to work through soon!

11. You should of course post details of your drop on your own blog too...but as if you weren't going to do that already! Don't forget to link into The Toy Society blog (www.thetoysociety.blogspot.com) so I can come and visit and comment!

A quick word on the finding part...not everyone replies to say they've taken a member into their home and some people take ages to reply!. And for me, that's absolutely fine. I started this project to contribute to the streetscape and encourage people to notice and engage with their surroundings. So while hearing back from a finder is a great buzz, it's just the cherry on top of the icing on this fun little project.

Now, go forth and share the love!
